Open Positions

Ph.D positions

Multiple Ph.D. positions are available to start the joint doctorate program of Electrical and Computer Engineering departments at UC San Diego and San Diego State University for Fall 2019. Successful candidates will receive full tuition support from UC San Diego and a competitive stipend with benefits from San Diego State University. It is strongly desired that the applicants hold a master’s degree in electrical engineering or other STEM disciplines with relevant expertise in applying optimization, data analytics, or control techniques to power system operation and planning problems. The research focus will be on grid modernization with specific applications to microgrids, renewable energy integration, interdependent infrastructures, and demand response. Interested individuals with the willingness to learn and motivations to conduct research in smart grid topics are invited to submit a copy of their credentials including their CV, standard test scores, unofficial undergraduate/graduate transcripts, and sample publications to smanshadi@sdsu.edu. A demonstrated record of publication is a plus but not required.

It is strongly desired that the applicants are familiar with machine learning and data analytics techniques with a demonstrated record of coding implementations (e.g. Julia, Python, R, and MATLAB). The research focus is on the integration of data analytics methods for enhancing the operational planning of the smart electricity grid. A basic knowledge of power system operation is encouraged but not required. Interested individuals with the willingness to learn and motivations to conduct research in smart grid topics are invited to submit a copy of their credentials including CV, sample work, and unofficial undergraduate/graduate transcripts to smanshadi@sdsu.edu.
